Purpose
To repeal various Acts as a result of the
introduction of the Pig Industry Bill 1986.
Background
The Pork Promotion Committee, established under the Pig Meat Promotion Act 1975, will continue as the Australian Pork Corporat i on under the Pig Industry Bill 1986. Th i s Bill will provide for the repeal of legislation which will become obsolete when the _Pig Industry Bill 1986 comes into effect. In addition, it will provide for arrangements for the transition of functions from the Promotion Committee to the Corporation.
Main Provisions
Cl auses 1 to 4 of the Bi 11 wi 11 come into force on
the day the Bill receives Royal Assent. The rest of the
Bill will become operative on the day that the Australian Pork Corporation comes into being (clause 2).
Clause 4 will ensure that expenses incurred by the Australian Pork Corporation Selection Committee will be met by the Pork Promotion Committee until the Austral ian Pork Corporation comes into being.
The following Acts will be repealed by clause 5:
Pig Meat Promotion Act 1975
Pig Meat Promotion Amendment Act 1980
Pig Meat Legislation Amendment Act 1984.
