Press Release Ref: 527 Published: 23/10/2001 Title: Nairn's Campaign Launch a Reminder of Uncertain Times We Face

Gary Nairn’s campaign for re-election was officially launched on Monday in Queanbeyan.

But for Gary Nairn, the hard work is nothing new.

“Really my campaign began the day after the 1998 election,” he said.

“I don’t believe you can rest on your laurels and have no policies for a whole term and then expect the electorate to believe you when you start throwing around a promise-a-day during an election campaign.” Gary Nairn said.

“I enjoy working with the local community and getting things done – it’s a great part of the job.

“And I have a definite plan for this region, and with the support of the local community, I think there is a lot more that we can achieve,” he said.

The presence of Brendan Nelson, the Federal Government’s Parliamentary Secretary for Defence, was a reminder of the large number of jobs that Gary Nairn has secured in the region from Defence.

As well as the recently announced Defence Headquarters near Queanbeyan, Nairn was largely responsible for the Cooma Defence Service Centre which created upwards of 100 jobs and the Eden Multi-Purpose Wharf and Ammunitioning Facility which is expected to provide a huge boost to business in the region.

Speaking to a large group of Liberal supporters, Brendan Nelson told of how Nairn was relentless in his pursuit of projects for the electorate and had “practically worn a path between his office and the Prime Minister’s office in Parliament House”.

Gary Nairn’s campaign office is located at 63 Monaro Street in Queanbeyan and will be open

right through to November 10.
