Media Release DavidHawkerMP Federal Member for Wannon

20 November 2003

Member for Wannon – David Hawker – said today businesses from the south west had received $66,615 in Export Market Development Grants from the Federal Government in 2002-03.

Mr. Hawker called the grants a pat on the back for small and medium enterprises in our region that had put in the hard work needed to build export markets for their products and services.

He said the grants also provided important financial support to help the businesses continue and expand their success overseas.

“Our grant recipients included two wine manufacturing businesses from Bayindeen and Redbank, a recorded media manufacturing and publishing business from Balmoral and a recreation services business from Camperdown,” Mr. Hawker said.

“They are to be congratulated for their initiative in getting these businesses into the export market and for bringing the benefits back to our community.

“Exporters provide vital jobs for Australians in this area and around the country. One in five Australian jobs depends on exports, one in four in regional areas.

“In fact, I would encourage all local companies who are not already selling overseas to consider getting into exporting and to take advantage of these grants and other Austrade services.”

Further information about the export grants and other Austrade services can be obtained by contacting Austrade on 13 28 78 or by visiting http://www.austrade.gov.au
