QUESTIONS WITHOUT NOTICE - WINE INDUSTRY

Mr McVEIGH —Does the Minister for Primary Industry recall confirming, in answer to my question on 7 September, that the Government's decision regarding tax on fortified wine would not be changed? At the time was he in receipt of Opposition representations and discussing the issue with wine industry representatives and the Treasurer? Does he accept that, in light of last night's announcement by the Treasurer, he has misled the House?

Mr KERIN —I am always amazed at the way in which the honourable member for Darling Downs frames his questions. On the day mentioned I replied to a whole bracket of questions, rather absurd by nature, and, of course, I simply said no to them. In terms of the issue raised by the honourable member about representations by Opposition members and the grape growing and wine making industry in general, the Treasurer gave Cabinet's answer in his Press release last night.

Mr McVeigh —Mr Speaker, I take a point of order. The question I asked was: Does the Minister accept that he has misled the House? He has not answered the question.

Mr SPEAKER —Order! The honourable member knows that, by making allegations about misleading the House, he is sailing pretty close to the wind. There is no point of order.
