PRIME MINISTER LAUNCHES AUSTRALIA'S LARGEST INDUSTRY GROUP Statement by Bob Herbert - Chief Executive

The Australiartlncfuatry Group, a result of the successful merger between, M TIApnd The 1 Australian Chamber or Manufactures,) was launched today by the Prime Minister at the National Press Club In Canberra.

The Australian Industry Group constitutes Australia's largest industry representative body. Operating 17 locations across Australia, It represents over 11,500 smali, medium and large companies In manufacturing, engineering, construction, information technology, food processing, automotive, aviation, chemicals, telecommunications, energy and other

manufacturing and related service industries.

Each year, these companies produce over $100 billion in output, export product worth $25 billion and they employ over one million Australians,

The Australian Industry Group will be a forceful and powerful advocate for Australian Industry.

It will have a strong foothold in Asia with offices in Osaka and Jakarta.

The advent of the Australian Industry Group represents an important development in public policy advocacy In Australia.

In addition to Its representation role the Australian Industry Group will be a major service provider to Industry. Its services will embrace all the issues which go to the competitiveness of industry: trade, business regulation, training, Industrial relations, workplace safety and of course economic policy.
