- Abstract
The Aurukun campus of the Cape York Aboriginal Australian Academy (CYAAA) in Queensland was temporarily closed in May 2016 in response to significant concerns raised by staff, including the school leaders, about the physical safety of school personnel. This is reflective of broader law and order issues in the community. This review was conducted to assist the Department of Education and Training, CYAAA, and the community to identify the strategies required to meet the needs of the Aurukun community and address concerns about declines in student attendance and staff morale. The review used the National School Improvement Tool (NSIT) to examine the school's improvement agenda. This report presents the findings and recommendations of the review, on the topics of governance and operational arrangements, engagement of the Aurukun community, secondary education provisions, and Direct Instruction.
