Summary

The bill: amends the Health Insurance Commission (Reform and Separation of Functions) Act 1997 to permit the Commonwealth to sell its shares in Medibank Private Limited (Medibank); facilitates the sale of the Commonwealth’s equity in Medibank; and permits Medibank to operate on a “for profit” basis. Also makes consequential amendments to the National Health Act 1953, Commonwealth Borrowing Levy Act 1987 and Remuneration Tribunal Act 1973.
