Federal Member for Wannon, David Hawker, has written to the Prime Minister urging him to assist 20 Timboon Farmhouse Cheese workers who will lose their jobs on 13 March.

“I was deeply saddened to hear of National Foods’ decision to close the historic Timboon Farmhouse Cheese factory which has been so popular with tourists to the region, but our first priority now must be to assist those who will now be without a job,” Mr Hawker said.

“I have written to the Prime Minister urging him to assist these local workers immediately through the newly announced employment services investment which has been brought in to ensure any Australian worker made redundant can receive immediate and personalised assistance to help them get back into the workforce.

“This intensive assistance will include career advice, a comprehensive skills assessment, skills development training, IT support and stationery support to help with job applications, targeted referral to appropriate education and training and a $550 credit to pay for items such as training courses and tools or equipment,” he said.
