A consumer’s guide to avoiding scams, swindles and rorts is now available from the office of Federal Member for Bonner, Ross Vasta.

“The Little Black Book of Scams is produced by the Federal Government and is a comprehensive guide that presents examples of scams currently in operation,” said Mr Vasta.

Each chapter in the book identifies a specific type of scam, explains how to recognise a potential scam and most importantly offers tips on how to protect yourself.

Mr Vasta said Australians lose large amounts of money each year by believing and investing in scams devised by scam artists.

“Scammers are constantly developing new ways to re-invent old scams. Don’t be fooled, if the deal sounds too good to be true, then it probably is,” said Mr Vasta.

“Every year, unsuspecting Australians are scammed by false promises of lottery wins, once-only offers of instant wealth, or effortless ‘work-from-home’ jobs.

There are two simple rules for protecting yourself against scams: Learn to recognise scams from genuine offers and know how to combat a scammer’s tricks, and the Little Black Book of Scams offers the tools to do this” Mr Vasta said.

Copies of the book are available from Mr Vasta’s electorate office on 3893 3488 .
