MINISTER FOR TRANSPORT AND COMMUNICATIONS

Sir Nicholas Shehadie AC QBE has been reappointed to the position of Chairman of the Special Broadcasting Service (SBS), the Minister for Transport and Communications, Kim Beazley, announced today.

The reappointment is for two years, from 12 July 1990 to 11 July 1992. Sir Nicholas has been Chairman of the SBS continuously since 10 July 1981.

Mr Beazley said that Sir Nicholas had overseen the development of the SBS into a mainstream broadcaster with a major responsibility for multicultural and multilingual services. It was appropriate that he should now oversee the

establishment of the SBS as an independent authority with its own legislative base and charter.
