Hartsuyker calls for funding applications to mark 60th anniversary of the end of World War 11

The Nationals Federal Member for Cowper, Luke Hartsuyker, has called on community and ex-service groups in his electorate to apply for funds which will go towards activities associated with the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the end of World War 11.

Mr Hartsuyker said the Commonwealth was keen to encourage all local communities to mark the 60th anniversary occasion through the promotion of community participation projects.

Community and ex-service organisations, local government authorities, schools and local museums all have the opportunity to apply.

The Australian Government has set aside funds of up to $10,000 for each Federal electorate, with the aim of increasing awareness of the significance of the anniversary.

“Projects that recognise the servicemen and women of World War 11 or increase awareness of the Victory in the Pacific or the Australian lifestyle in 1945 are being encouraged,” Mr Hartsuyker said.

“I am particularly keen to see grants directed at projects which involve school children or for functions which involve surviving war veterans and widows.

“This is about commemorating, celebrating, educating and preserving our war time legacy.”

With $10,000 set aside for each electorate the opportunity exists for a number projects to receive funding.

Application forms are available from the office of Luke Hartsuyker on 6652 62 33 or on the net at

All applications need to be submitted to Mr Hartsuyker by June 27, 2005.
