Media Release The Hon David Hawker MP Speaker of the House of Representatives Federal Member for Wannon

8 February 2007

Federal Member for Wannon, David Hawker, today announced an additional $500,000 in funding towards Warrnambool College’s $4.5million redevelopment of classrooms, technology and arts facilities.

The additional funding comes on top of last year’s $3.2million Federal capital grant towards the project, bringing total Federal funding up to $3.7million.

Warrnambool College Principal Mary Pendergast was absolutely delighted to receive the additional funding.

“We’ve been really stretched with this project and this extra money will make such a difference,” she said.

Mr Hawker said these new facilities will help the school provide the best possible learning environment for students.

“This project involves a significant amount of funding - an indication of the importance the Australian Government places on developing and maintaining school infrastructure,” he said.

Earlier this week Mr Hawker announced over $3.3million in infrastructure funding to schools across Western Victoria.

“This demonstrates the Government’s continued commitment to a strong and effective school system, maximising opportunities for young Australians,” Mr Hawker said.
