Hartsuyker launches Bellingen Environment Centre’s solar system

The Bellingen Environment Centre has become a more energy efficient building following the launch of the Sustainable Earth Building project.

The Nationals Federal Member for Cowper, Luke Hartsuyker, officially flicked the switch on the centre’s Church Street solar system last Friday.

Funding for the solar initiative was provided through the Australian Government’s Photovoltaic Rebate scheme.

“The Photovoltaic Rebate Program assists projects which aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, assist in the development of the solar industry in Australia, and increase the public awareness of renewable energy,” Mr Hartsuyker said.

“The commissioning of this particular solar system complements many of the aims and objectives of the Environment Centre.”

“The solar installation, I understand, covers around half of the north facing roof. It will provide the building and its occupants with around one half of its energy usage.

“Importantly, it is a Grid interactive system, which enables the solar system to contribute to the wider Country Energy distribution network.”

Mr Hartsuyker said the people of Bellingen have always been at the forefront of awareness of the importance of important environmental issues both to their region and more widely.

“I strongly support initiatives such as this because they serve to bring together environmental, employment, social and economic objectives, at a local, ‘grassroots’ and regional level,” Mr Hartsuyker said.
