Bob Baldwin MP

Federal Member for Paterson

5 November 2002

Students and staff at St. Josephs at Bulahdelah will benefit from a Commonwealth Grant of $539,807 for a new building project, the Federal Member for Paterson, Bob Baldwin said.

The project will involve the construction of a building services store, 3 general learning areas, a library, a physical education store, a canteen and pupil toilets.

“These new facilities will help the school provide the best possible learning environment for students in the area,” Mr Baldwin said.

“In 2003, the Commonwealth Government will spend $6.5 billion on funding for government and non-government schools, an increase of $475 million or 7.9% over 2002. This funding includes $89.3 million for capital projects in non-government schools.

“The Commonwealth Capital Grants Program for schools is designed to improve the educational outcomes of educationally disadvantaged students.

“This project involves a significant amount of funding - an indication of the importance the Government places on developing and maintaining school infrastructure.”

“Over the period 2001-2004 the Commonwealth Government will provide around $25.2 billion in direct funding to schools. This demonstrates the Government’s commitment to a strong and effective school system, maximising the opportunities for young Australians.
