GOVERNMENT SPINS A TALL TALE ON TRAVESTON DAM BENEFITS Queensland Democrat Senator Andrew Bartlett has slammed the Deputy Premier's claim that the Traveston Crossing dam will be an 'economic booster shot' for the Gympie region as laughable and desperate spin.

"The state government commissioned report into the project simply highlights a few short term benefits to some locals and long term benefits to none," Senator Bartlett said.

"The government's take on this report is a sure sign of how concerned it is becoming at the rapidly growing public opposition to the project.

"Independent studies have shown that the dam wont solve our water crisis and that it will be totally destructive to the communities and the local environment.

"It is already damaging local industries and will destroy high quality farming land and damage many of the businesses and communities that support those farms.

"I urge the people of Brisbane and surrounding regions to get behind the communities impacted by the Traveston Crossing proposal and send a loud and clear message to our government that this destructive dam must be stopped.

"The billions of dollars saved can be put into more reliable and effective water projects that offer real solutions," Senator Bartlett concluded.
