The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Danna Vale, today congratulated Rear Admiral Ian Crawford AO AM (Mil) RAN (Ret’d) on his re-appointment as a part-time member of the Council of the Australian War Memorial.

Comprising 10 members appointed by the Governor-General and representatives of each of the Armed Services, the Council of the Australian War Memorial plays a role in overseeing the Australian War Memorial.

RADM Crawford, a Korean War veteran, has served on the Council since 1998. His re-appointment is for a further 12 months, to December 2004.

“The Council provides a voice for the veteran community to ensure the memorial continues to reflect the contribution made by Australians in wars, conflicts and peace operations,” Mrs Vale said.

“RADM Crawford was involved in the establishment of the Australian National Korean War Memorial in Canberra to mark the 50th anniversary of the beginning of the Korean War.

“I am pleased that RADM Crawford will be continuing as a member of the Council of the Australian War Memorial as he is an excellent representative of our Korean War veterans and the wider veteran community.”

RADM Crawford served in the Royal Australian Navy for 40 years. This included serving aboard the Royal Navy ship HMS Ceylon during the Korean War, and a number of Royal Australian Navy ships.

RADM Crawford has held a number of Australian Defence Force positions including Director-General Supply - Navy, Chief of Supply for the Department of Defence and Australian Defence and Naval Attache Paris.
