APPOINTMENT OF MR RAY BRAITHWAITE

 

I am pleased to announce that the Government has appointed Mr Ray Braithwaite as the Associate Commissioner for the Productivity Commission inquiry into the impact of competition poli cy reforms on rural and regional Australia.

 

Mr Braithwaite will join Commissioners John Cosgrove and Professor Judith Sloan.

 

The Government had previously announced that it intended to appoint a person with wide experience of, and knowledge concerning, rural and regional Australia as an Associate Commissioner to assist with this Productivity Commission inquiry.

 

Mr Braithwaite is most eminently qualified to fulfill this role. He has extensive experience in rural industry, as a sugar farmer, and an accountant, as well as considerable Parliamentary, Public and community service.

 

Until recently, Mr Braithwaite also held the honorary position of Federal Director of the National Party, a position from which he has retired.
