AUSTRALIA AND CHINA STRENGTHEN TOURISM RELATIONSHIP Australian and China today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at boosting tourism between our two countries.

The Australia-China MoU relates to the China Approved Destination Status (ADS) scheme, and seeks to allow China's outbound travel to Australia to continue to grow, while also contributing to the friendly, cooperative relationship between the two countries.

Key principles of the MoU include:

· to contribute to information through regular interaction and information exchange between the relevant authorities;

· to cooperate to ensure the efficient and effective administration of the ADS scheme in both countries; and

· to build a successful and sustainable ADS scheme, to ensure Chinese visitors travelling to Australia under the scheme enjoy a quality holiday experience.

Fran Bailey said ensuring the quality of the experience of inbound Chinese tourists was a key objective of both the Chinese and Australian governments.

"The signing of the MoU between Australia and China signals the continued commitment of both governments to fostering the growth of sustainable and quality tourism," Fran Bailey, Minister for Small Business and Tourism, said.

"We must ensure that Chinese visitors are treated fairly, and that the integrity and reputation of the Australian tourism industry is protected.

"Through the strengthened ADS scheme and the MoU, both the Chinese and the Australian Governments have shown their commitment to delivering quality tourism products.

"Following my visit to China, I proposed an MOU agreement with the Chinese Government to boost tourism between our tourism countries. I am delighted the MOU has now come to fruition I thank Chairman Shao for his strong support."
