Hull Predicts Good News for the Riverina

Tuesday, 20 January 2004

The Nationals Member for Riverina Kay Hull predicts an announcement concerning roads funding will bring good news for the region.

Mrs Hull said she had continued to lobby the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Transport and Regional Service John Anderson about the importance of reliable roads to people throughout the Riverina.

“I have received representations from councils and their representatives throughout the electorate and I have ensured that Minister Anderson is aware of my support for this invaluable program,” Mrs Hull said.

“Minister Anderson and the Nationals in Government have listened to the concerns of local government who, due to the cost-shifting of the States, have been given greater financial responsibility for the maintenance of local roads.

“I expect the announcement will bring good news to the region, with local councils to share in extra dollars for local roads.

“Local roads are extremely important for both the safety of residents using the roads and for those who depend on safe and reliable roads for their livelihood.”
