MORE SUPPORT FOR OLDER AUSTRALIANS TO LIVE INDEPENDENTLY

Aston MP Chris Pearce today announced that Strathdon Community in Forest Hill would help more older Australians with care needs to live independently and remain in their own home after receiving ten new Community Aged Care Packages worth over $115,000 each year.

Mr Pearce said the Australian Government-funded Community Aged Care Packages would provide planned and coordinated community aged care services including personal care, social support along with activities and work around the home such as laundry, gardening and shopping.

“This funding demonstrates the Government’s recognition that older Australians increasingly want the appropriate support to remain in their own home and community”, Mr Pearce said.

“I would like to thank the team at Strathdon Community for their commitment to working with the Government and providing the quality services needed to make this a reality”, Mr Pearce said.

The new places form part of over 8,600 new aged care places made available in the 2003-2004 Aged Care Approvals Round at a cost of over $186 million.
