Hartsuyker supports Glenreagh Mountain Railway application for Commonwealth funding

The Nationals Federal Member for Cowper, Luke Hartsuyker, has pledged his support for an application for Federal funding from the Glenreagh Mountain Railway.

The GMR are seeking funds which will allow them to upgrade a three kilometre section of railway.

Mr Hartsuyker said he would be seeking funds under the Australian Government’s Regional Partnerships programme.

“Since the Commonwealth launched the Regional Partnerships programme community interest across the Cowper electorate has been very strong.

“The number of applications for assistance highlights how competitive it is to secure funds through Regional Partnerships.

“It also reflects the amount of activity which is occurring in communities right along the North Coast.

“While the Glenreagh application will have to be matched against the guidelines for the programme, I believe the GMR project offers excellent opportunities for our region.

“There are hundreds of members of the GMR who have committed countless hours in an attempt to get the line operational again.

“I think any funds which we can secure for the project will be put to good use.”

Mr Hartsuyker said a key component of the assessment process for funding was community support for the project.

“The Glenreagh Mountain Railway people do enjoy wide support. The case for funding is enhanced if the community is united behind such a project.”
