Media release 16 May 2005

The Nationals Member for Riverina, Kay Hull, today welcomed $21,537.12 in Australian Government funding to allow Riverina organisations to purchase much needed equipment for volunteers.

This funding, announced by the Minister for Family and Community Services, Senator Kay Patterson, is part of $3 million allocated for the Volunteer Small Equipment Grants 2005.

Mrs Hull said the fourteen organisations had been allocated $21,537.12 to purchase a wide variety of small equipment items. The complete list of funding grants is attached.

“This funding will help make dedicated volunteers’ valuable work easier, safer and more enjoyable,” Mrs Hull said.

“Each purchase will make a significant difference to volunteers’ work, and is equipment this organisation may not have been able to otherwise afford.

“These volunteers are ordinary people who give up their valuable time to help their own communities in all sorts of fields - like family and community support, emergency services, the environment, sport and tourism,” Mrs Hull said.

Mrs Hull said this latest round of funding is the seventh time the Australian Government has committed its financial support directly to volunteers, bringing the total funding to over $29 million, distributed to approximately 13,600 community organisations Australia wide.

“The Australian Government remains committed to supporting the important work volunteers do for the Australian community,” Mrs Hull said.
