SENATOR NIGEL SCULLION Senator for the Northern Territory ____________________________________________________________________

21 July 2004

$500,000 FOR ALICE CROC FESTIVAL Northern Territory Senator Nigel Scullion said today the Federal Government will provide $500,000 to stage a Croc Festival in Alice Springs later this year.

Senator Scullion said the Federal Government was very supportive of the community based event and was spending almost $2.4 million this year to support the festivals in Alice, Katherine and another six centres across Australia.

The Croc Festival is an innovative educational and performing arts festival for Territory students living in remote and rural communities in the Northern Territory.

The Croc Festival runs for three days and successfully promotes health, education, careers, sports and the arts, encouraging students to attend school, make healthy lifestyle choices and set positive goals for the future - all in a completely tobacco free, alcohol free and drug free environment.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for Alice Springs and students in the surrounding regions and I am very pleased to support this great community initiative for Territory students and communities,” Senator Scullion said.

“Katherine is host to a Croc Festival in August this year and I expect this will be just as successful as previous Festivals in the Northern Territory.”
