12 February 2004 A21/2004

The Deputy Chairman of Airservices Australia, Air Marshal Les Fisher AO (ret), has been appointed as Acting Chairman of Airservices Australia, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Transport and Regional Services, John Anderson, announced today.

The appointment follows the resignation of John Forsyth, which takes effect from today.

"Mr Forsyth has been chairman of Airservices Australia since 1996 and in that time the organisation has made great progress," Mr Anderson said.

"Airservices Australia is a vastly improved and more efficient organisation than when Mr Forsyth was first appointed. The organisation is held in high regard both in Australia and internationally.

"I wish to express my appreciation for his contribution and wish him well in future endeavours.

"I have appointed Air Marshal Fisher to act as Chair until a permanent appointment can be made. He has an impressive record in aviation safety and organisational leadership and has acted as chairman previously."
