Plans are under way to set a date for new Environment Minister - Ian Campbell - to inspect the Wimmera Mallee pipeline project.

Former Environment Minister - Dr. David Kemp - was to have inspected the project and attended a public meeting in Balmoral on July 30.

The visit was set up by Member for Wannon - David Hawker and Federal Member for Mallee - John Forrest.

Mr. Hawker said today the visit had been postponed until both Members had fully briefed the new Minister on the project.

He said Senator Campbell’s appointment and the recent signing of the National Water Agreement cleared the way for Commonwealth’s funding of the project.

Mr. Forrest said he and Mr. Hawker would be working hard to get the new Minister to the region as soon as possible.

He said it was vital that Senator Campbell see first-hand the value of the project and its benefits to the Glenelg and Wimmera Rivers.

Both Mr. Hawker and Mr. Forrest said they were working constantly to ensure the project and its significant long-term benefits remained at the forefront of national water conservation initiatives.
