SENATOR THE HON IAN CAMPBELL Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts Manager of Government Business in the Senate

Media Release

Graduates Online Senator Ian Campbell, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, today welcomed news that for the first time students and graduates from all over Australia can apply for graduate programs in the Commonwealth Public Service via the Internet.

'Government is leading by example when it comes to embracing new technologies and making the most of the online environment,' Senator Campbell said.

The Commonwealth Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts (DOCITA) heads a consortium for Commonwealth graduate recruitment and has recently appointed Australian company Pty Ltd to provide leading edge online graduate recruitment.

'Recruiting through the Internet makes life easier for everyone-students, graduates and Commonwealth departments and agencies,' Senator Campbell said.

'Now students and graduates can simply login and fill out an online application and resume-the whole process only takes 45 minutes.

'The online system will automatically sort applications and provide a shortlist of potential graduates which eliminates the time-consuming process of managing paper applications.

'The Internet gives Government the unprecedented opportunities to package and deliver services in an efficient and integrated manner-the online graduate recruitment system is a great example of what can be achieved,' said Senator Campbell.

The graduate recruitment consortium currently consists of DOCITA; the Department of Family and Community Services; the Department of Transport and Regional Services; the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs; Department of Employment, Workplace Relations and Small Business; and the National Archives of Australia.

There are a number of other agencies interested in joining the consortium which will boost its members to the maximum of ten allowed under the contract-together these agencies will be recruiting in excess of 150 graduates.

Students and graduates can apply through the DOCITA website at using the easyfind keyword 'graduate' or directly through
