Press Release Ref: 765 Published: 9/8/2002 Title: Nairn encourages business links to Beijing

Federal Member for Eden-Monaro, Gary Nairn has welcomed the launch of a program today designed to assist local businesses explore opportunities in China.

The “Building Business in Beijing” project aims to maximise business and employment outcomes for the region.

Mr Nairn said, “The project is funded under the Federal Government’s Regional Assistance Program to the tune of $121,000”.

“With Australia just securing a $25 billion dollar contract to supply Liquid Natural Gas to China, the door is opening for Queanbeyan, Cooma and the coast companies to seriously consider the possibilities.

“Also with Beijing hosting the 2008 Olympic games, there has never been a better time for local firms to look at the options.

“Under the project, a number of seminars will be conducted to pass on information about establishing business links to China.

“I encourage all interested business operators in our region to attend.

“We already have some strong links to China with business delegations from Queanbeyan and Cooma having travelled to the country as well as hosting groups from China in recent years”, he said.

Ends, Friday, August 9, 2002.
