Joanna Gash MP Member for Gilmore 19 July 2005

GASH WELCOMES START OF TUTORIAL VOUCHER INITIATIVE Member for Gilmore Joanna Gash has welcomed the start of the Australian Government’s pilot Tutorial Voucher Initiative.

“This is an outstanding pilot program which will help deliver better education services,” Mrs Gash said.

“Parents in Gilmore will no doubt be pleased to know the program is now on offer.”

Under the pilot program, parents of children in Year 3 in 2003 who were below the Year 3 national reading benchmark are eligible to receive a $700 tutorial voucher to help improve their child’s reading skills.

“Improved literacy levels are a key education goal of the Australian Government and the pilot tutorial program will go a long way to meeting the goal,” Mrs Gash said.

Mrs Gash urged all parents of eligible students to contact the NSW Department of Education on Freecall 1800 464 589 to ensure their child receives this valuable tool to help improve their reading skills.

Further general information about the initiative is also available from the Tutorial Voucher Initiative website, by telephoning the TVI hotline on 1800 655 476 or by contacting Mrs Gash’s Nowra office on 02 4423 1782.
