Deputy Prime Minister

Minister for Transport and Regional Services

2 nd December 1999

The Federal Government has appointed Mr James Kimpton to the Board of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority for a two-year period.

The Minister for Transport and Regional Services, John Anderson, made the announcement today.

Mr Anderson said Mr Kimpton had resigned from a senior policy management position at Ansett Australia in July this year to become Deputy Chairman of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.

“With his expertise in the aviation industry and high-level corporate experience, Mr Kimpton will bring an extra dimension to AMSA, which, aside from its major maritime regulatory role, is responsible for aviation search and rescue.”

“Over the past few years, Mr Kimpton has been involved in several aviation policy advisory committees and reviews on behalf of the Government. He will be an excellent asset to the current strong transport industry-based Board membership at AMSA.”

A solicitor, Mr Kimpton has also been a consultant to the private and public sector in product marketing, sales management and corporate planning.
