ROGER PRICE MP Federal Member for Chifley

5th December 2003

Federal Chifley MP Roger Price will fly out for Indonesia tomorrow afternoon to attend the Council for Security Cooperation in the Asia Pacific (C-SCAP) meeting starting in Jakarta on Sunday.

Mr. Price, the Deputy Chair of Federal Parliament’s Defence Sub Committee and a member of the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade, will join National Party MP Bruce Scott in attending the three day conference.

“It’s crucially important, especially in the current climate, that we engage in a frank and open dialogue with our regional neighbours concerning terrorism and security issues in the Asia Pacific”, Mr. Price said.

Mr. Price will return from Jakarta next Wednesday, December 10th, before joining an 8-strong Committee delegation to the Solomon Islands the following Wednesday, December 17th.

During the two-day visit, Mr. Price and his colleagues will meet with Australian Defence Force personnel serving in the troubled island nation.

They will also receive a briefing from the Australian head of the Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI), Liuetenant Colonel Quentin Flowers.

“I’m looking forward to getting an update on how things are progressing in the Solomon Islands and of course meeting up with our troops on the ground”.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to apologise to those schools who have asked me to attend ceremonies to mark the end of school year, but unfortunately these commitments will prevent me from attending some of them”.

“I’d like to wish all Chifley students and their teachers a very safe and happy Christmas”.
