Federal Member for Barker, Mr Patrick Secker MP, has accused Riverland MP, Mrs Karlene Maywald, of putting Adelaide people ahead of her own Riverland constituents in relation to water supply.

Mr Secker today said that when South Australian were informed that its River Murray allocations were to be reduced by 15% her response was a 40% cut to Riverland irrigators and a claytons restriction system for Adelaide residents, which has lead to a

20% increase in Adelaide water consumption.

Mr Secker said” I am appalled that Mrs Maywald has sacrificed Riverland people and businesses for voters in Adelaide and I wonder where her real priorities are??”

“Mrs Maywald has tried to deflect the issue by personally attacking me of not being at a water meeting in Berri yesterday. The truth is that I wasn’t actually invited. What I was actually committed to do yesterday though was participate in a drought meeting in Murray Bridge, ensuring our EC submissions get to Canberra as quickly as possible.

“Mrs Maywald has failed the Riverland people and industries again on water issues. No amount of stunts will deflect the fact that it’s all occurring to win the Adelaide voters who support the Labor Government.

“Its just typical of Mrs Maywald who seems to think that it is more important to score cheap political points rather than focussing on finding solutions to the issue which will treat all water users fairly,” Mr Secker said.
