The 200 kilometre Walk for Meg has begun.

Michael Ferguson today started his charity walk on Flinders Island. The 200 kilometre journey will raise money for research into Cystic Fibrosis.

Among those joining today's walk were students from Flinders Island District High School and the Flinders Island Multi-purpose Centre.

"Flinders Island is an ideal location to start the walk," Mr Ferguson said.

"The support here is amazing and I thank the local community for its encouragement. So many organisations have worked to raise funds including the school, Lions Club and hospital staff and residents.

"During the next two weeks I will visit all areas of Northern Tasmania to raise awareness of Cystic Fibrosis.

"The money we raise is going to benefit CF sufferers around Tasmania and to support national research."
