Federal Funds for Local Roads Projects

Federal Member for Bowman, Andrew Laming has congratulated the Redland Shire Council for successfully completing over $4 million in road rehabilitation and development projects over the past four years.

The Australian Government Funds for these projects came from the Department of Transport and Regional Services’ scheme, “Roads to Recovery.”

Over the past four years, fourteen projects were identified by Redland Shire Council as being funded by the Roads to Recovery Scheme. These included asphalt overlays on Allenby Road, Alexandra Hills; road reseals at Point Lookout, Stradbroke Island; road rehabilitation at Main Road, Wellington Point and at Wilsons Esplanade, Victoria Point.

“These projects, which have been successfully managed by the Redland Shire Council, were part of the Australian Government’s nation-wide focus on delivering better local roads,” said Mr Laming.

“The success of these projects has prompted the Australian Government to extend the Roads to Recovery Programme and increase the funds available to the Redland Shire Council over the next four years.

“Roads to Recovery allows councils, who are aware of the specific roads problems in their areas, to identify and manage improvement projects where they determine a need.0

“I congratulate the Redland Shire Council for implementing these fantastic roads programs and for ensuring the continued improvement of our local roads.

“I would also congratulate the State Government for the improvements to Redland Bay Road in Alexandra Hills however, I would urge them to consider providing more local roads improvements and that they be scheduled to occur as a priority.”
