Press Release Ref: 999 Published: 4/7/2003 Title: More than $50,000 Funding for Services in Candelo

Candelo will soon have greater access to essential services with the help of more than $50,000 in Federal Government funding.

Federal Member for Eden-Monaro, Gary Nairn today joined Federal Minister for Regional Services, Territories and Local Government, Wilson Tuckey, in announcing the grant under the Rural Transaction Centres (RTC) Program.

Mr Nairn said by working with the RTC program, Candelo had taken another step towards bringing new services to their town.

"The Candelo community, in particular Peter and Jeanette Hughes, and Bega Valley Shire Council should be applauded for all the work that went into gaining this funding from the Federal Government," Mr Nairn said.

“The funding will be spent establishing EPOS services, public access to the Internet and email, faxing, laminating, scanning and photocopying.

Mr Tuckey said the Federal Government was committed to restoring and improving basic transaction services to small communities and the RTC Program was a demonstration of that.

"Not only is the RTC Program restoring services, but a number of small communities now have access to services they never had, like banking and Medicare easy claim," Mr Tuckey said.

The RTC National Office can be contacted on toll free number 1800 038 160.
