ROGER PRICE MP Federal Member for Chifley

Only 3 Showers for Veterans Federal Member for Chifley and Deputy Chairman of the Defence Committee, Roger Price said that the government’s policy of only three showers a week for veterans who need help is both degrading to the veteran community and to the nurses who provide this invaluable service.

I am amazed by the claim of the Minister for Veterans Affairs, Mr Bruce Scott that three showers a week is deemed ‘best practice’ for our veterans.

No wonder that the president of the Liberal Party described the Howard Government has being mean, tricky and out of touch.

“Both the nurses and veterans themselves don’t see three showers a week as ‘best practice’.

If Minister Scott thinks that three showers a week for veterans is best practise then he would be a hypocrite to have any more himself.

“Minister Scott’s press release claimed that veterans have to have specific medical circumstances before they can receive more than three showers a week.

Mr Price said earlier this year the government dismantled the Independent Exceptional Case Unit leaving the Department to make decisions about the level of care for veterans.

“It is outrageous that veterans who fought for this nation are now being told that three showers a week is ‘best practice’ for the sake of Minister Scott’s blatant and deplorable cost saving policies.”
