APPOINTMENT OF FIRST CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF THE AUSTRALIAN RADIATION PROTECTION AND NUCLEAR

SAFETY AGENCY

 

The Federal Minister for Health and Aged Care, Dr Michael Wooldridge, today announced the appointment of Dr John Loy as the Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA).

 

Dr Loy is the current Acting Chief Executive Officer of ARPANSA.

 

“Dr Loy has broad experience in the field of public administration, and has worked at the Senior Executive level within the Australian Public Service,” Dr Wooldridge said.

 

“He will bring to Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency a strong mix of skills and experience, and I am pleased that the Agency will benefit from his knowledge, energetic commitment and vision,” Dr Wooldridge said.

 

Dr Loy’s appointment is for five years.

 

Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency is part of the Health and Aged Care Portfolio. The Agency will administer the new legislation, the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Act 1998, which requires Commonwealth agencies to be licensed if they are involved in nuclear or radiation-related activities. The object of this legislation is to protect the environment and the health and safety of people.
