Day of Shame at Jabiluka

The arrest of Aboriginal women who are owners of the Jabiluka land targeted for an ERA uranium mine make for a shameful day in Australian history, Greens Senator Bob Brown said today.

Yvonne Margarula was amongst those arrested before dawn on the rim of Jabiluka valley.

“With international protests occurring today, Australia will be the butt of increasing criticism. The issue will not go away. The blockade of the mine site will win huge support inside and outside this nation,” said Senator Brown.

“I will be alerting my Greens MP colleagues in Europe and elsewhere of the latest developments. Already the European Parliament has passed a Greens motion opposing the Jabiluka mine,” said Senator Brown.

Senator Brown expects to visit the Jabiluka blockade in the coming weeks
