Press Release Ref: 868 Published: 13/12/2002 Title: $400,000 for upgrade at Cooma North Public School

Federal Member for Eden-Monaro, Gary Nairn, today announced the approval of a $400,000 grant for an upgrade at Cooma North Public School.

Mr Nairn said the Federal Government funding will be used to build a new hall, canteen and shade structure.

“The project is funded jointly with the State with a total cost of $1.6 million,” he said.

“The Commonwealth’s contribution makes up 25% of that despite schools being a State responsibility.

“The new facilities will help the school to provide the best possible learning environment for students at Cooma North.”

The work is scheduled to be completed by the end of March 2004.

Mr Nairn today also announced capital grants funding for two other schools in Eden-Monaro.

“Education Minister, Dr Brendan Nelson approved $2.55 million for Jerrabomberra School and $1.3 million for Merimbula Public School,” he said.

“The money will go towards the construction of Stage Two of Jerrabomberra Public which only opened this year, while a new hall, canteen and shade structure will be built at Merimbula.

“The funding announcements are, in all three cases, evidence of how local state members, Peter Webb and Russell Smith, can get results by working closely with their Federal counterpart.” Mr Nairn said.
