Member for Wannon - David Hawker - has praised the Dairy Regional Assistance Programme as the last round of successful applicants is announced.

The final round included an allocation of $40,150 to cover the work of the Dairy Industry Facilitation Officer in the Greater Green Triangle region.

Mr. Hawker said the officer finished recently after some very valuable work with dairy-dependent communities throughout the south west.

He said the appointment of the officer was an important element of the Federal Government’s programme to help dairy farmers deal with issues arising from deregulation of the industry.

“This particular project helped communities, groups, municipalities and private individuals develop funding proposals under the Dairy Regional Assistance Programme,” Mr. Hawker said.

“The dairy industry is major contributor to the south west economy and I am proud to say the assistance programme has also had a substantial impact.

“Over the life of the programme, almost $650,000 has been provided for projects in this region.

“These are projects that created jobs or services with on-going benefits for the region.”

Mr. Hawker said he was confident the dairy industry in the region would go from strength to strength.

He said he was confident also the Dairy Regional Assistance Programme played a substantial part in easing the process of deregulation.
