Senate Seeks Assurances on McCulloch’s Rights and Early Release

The Senate has passed Greens Senator Bob Brown’s motion that:

The Senate calls on the government of Indonesia to ensure Ms Lesley McCulloch is given full and immediate consular access and that she, and her colleagues, are treated fairly and in accordance with international human rights standards and released from custody as early as possible.

“I am pleased with this. It is a message to Indonesia of concern for Lesley and her party, now held in jail without charge in Aceh. I hope it helps her win an early release,” said Senator Brown, who met Ms McCulloch in Tasmania earlier this year.
