Nominations are now open for the 2007 Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Community Business Partnerships, which recognise the outstanding results business and community groups can achieve by working together.

Federal Member for Wannon, David Hawker, today urged local partnerships between businesses and community organisations to enter the Awards, with the opportunity to gain the recognition they deserve.

“The Awards showcase the positive impact these partnerships can have on communities, tackling important social and environmental issues,” Mr Hawker said

“They are also a great way of raising awareness about the benefits of cooperation between local communities and businesses and set a fine example for others.

“I know there are many innovative and successful partnerships within our community that make a real difference to people’s lives and help the needs of others.

“There is also a new category in this year’s Awards, the Special Award for Contribution to an Indigenous Community, which recognises the significant corporate sector contribution to Indigenous communities or services.

“Past winners have demonstrated what can be achieved when business, government and community organisations all work together. The award provides recognition not just locally, but also on the national stage.

“This is also not just about big business, with awards for both small and medium businesses and community partnerships. I encourage people in Western Victoria to consider entering or nominating a partnership within our community they consider to be worthy of recognition,” Mr Hawker said.

Winning partnerships will receive $10,000 for the community program or project at an award ceremony.

Nominations close on 27 April 2007. For more information and nomination forms visit or call1800 102 014 (freecall).
