FORMER VICE-CHIEF OF THE DEFENCE FORCE APPOINTED TO AUSTRALIAN WAR MEMORIAL COUNCIL

The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Danna Vale, today announced the appointment of Air Marshal Doug Riding AO DFC (Retd) as a part-time member of the Council of the Australian War Memorial.

Mrs Vale said Air Marshal Riding had been appointed for three years.

“Air Marshal Riding has maintained an active involvement in the ex-service community since his retirement from the Air Force in 2000 as a member of the RAAF Association and serves on the RSL’s National Defence Committee. He performed an invaluable role as a member of the independent committee that conducted the Review of Veterans’ Entitlements in 2002,” Mrs Vale said.

Air Marshal Riding was Vice-Chief of the Australian Defence Force from 1998-2000. He had a distinguished career in the RAAF, including active service in Vietnam with the United States Air Force, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1970. He was appointed an Officer in the Order of Australia in 2000.

The Council of the Australian War Memorial comprises 10 members appointed by the Governor-General and three representatives of the Services.
