The search for the best family-friendly workplaces begins Federal Minister for Employment, Workplace Relations and Small Business, Tony Abbott, today announced applications for the 2001 Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) National Work and Family Awards are now open.

"The search for best practice family-friendly workplaces is now underway around Australia," said Tony Abbott.

"We are hoping for an even better response than last year when we received a record number of applicants from a wide range of industries and organisations.

The ACCI Awards are open to private, public and community-based organisations and acknowledge the best family-friendly workplaces in the following categories:

large organisations (over 500 employees) ● medium organisations (20-500 employees) ● small organisations (less than 20 employees) ● organisations taking their first steps toward work and family initiatives ●

organisations that have implemented a significant innovative work and family initiative. ●

"Many employers are taking a long hard look at the way business is conducted. Increasingly employers are recognising that a workplace which accommodates the personal and family needs of its employees is an investment worth making," said Tony Abbott.

"I encourage any organisation thinking of applying for the Awards to attend the information sessions, which are being held in most capital cities during May. The sessions will provide an outstanding opportunity to hear from previous winners and finalists and information on application guidelines."

The Minister will announce the winners by at a presentation luncheon on 12 September 2001 in Sydney. Applications for the Awards close on 25 June 2001.
