A new drinking water treatment plant will ensure Bellbrook residents have a safe, secure and clean drinking water supply.

Senator Don Farrell, Parliamentary Secretary for Sustainability and Urban Water, said the opening of the water treatment plant fulfilled an Australian Government commitment to provide a much-needed safe and secure water supply for the residents of Bellbrook.

“The new treatment plant will filter and treat the water supply to meet Australian Drinking Water Guidelines,” Senator Farrell said.

“This means the residents of Bellbrook can turn on their taps and fill their glasses without fear of water quality issues including heavy metal contamination.”

Labor Senator for New South Wales, Michael Forshaw, congratulated the Mayor of Kempsey Shire Council, Mr John Bowell, and everyone involved in bringing this important project to fruition.

“This water treatment plant will remove the need for Bellbrook to cart water from Kempsey during periods of poor water quality, which is a significant budget saving for Kempsey Shire Council,” Senator Forshaw said.

“The plant will also double the volume of water held in reserve for Bellbrook and the surrounding areas.”

Kempsey Shire Council received funding of $700,000 under the National Water Security Plan for Cities and Towns program, a key component of the Gillard Government’s long-term Water for the Future initiative.

The Gillard Government’s Water for the Future initiative invests in urban water programs in cities, towns, and remote communities to help states, territories and local communities achieve long-term water security.
