Andrew Laming, MP

Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Health Services and Indigenous Health  Member for Bowman    Labor’s chronic renal failure

22 June 2011

The hundreds of Aboriginal Australians with chronic renal failure deserve better than a Labor Minister sitting on a report outlining the future of dialysis services, according to Shadow Indigenous Health Spokesperson Andrew Laming.

Dr Laming has demanded Indigenous Health Minister Warren Snowdon release the Central Australian Renal Study, which has been considered by all jurisdictions on June 7th.

“The initial report was seen in January but more detail was requested,” Dr Laming said.

“The final version has been with the Commonwealth for weeks.”

Dr Laming said it was ‘gutless’ to freeze delivery of dialysis services on the grounds that the report was pending, when it was the same entity sitting on the completed report.
