Ground Surveys Mark Start of Upgrade Work The upgrade of the Pacific Highway between Oxley Highway to Kempsey is pushing ahead with survey and geotechnical investigations now underway.

Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese said this work is an important part of the process that will see this long awaited upgrade delivered.

"The Gillard Labor Government is now investing $4.1 billion in the Pacific Highway, that's the largest investment in any single road in Australia," said Mr Albanese.

"The upgrade will provide around 38 kilometres of four-lane divided road between the Oxley Highway, near Port Macquarie, to Kempsey, including a bypass of Telegraph Point.

"The survey and geotechnical investigations will help develop the design and construction costings for the upgrade.

NSW Minister for Roads, Duncan Gay, said this is an important step to take this project to the next stage.

"The surveys are necessary to finalise the design for the project and identify property boundaries for the property acquisitions," said Mr Gay.

"We are asking residents for their help by allowing surveyors access to their properties."

"During the next few weeks surveyors carrying official identification will knock on doors near the proposed upgrade route to ask for permission to survey on private properties."

Planning and preconstruction work on the section of the Pacific Highway between Oxley Highway and Kempsey is jointly funded by the Australian and NSW Governments.
