Dear Sir,

I am writing to advise you that I have appointed Mr Roger Stewart of Brisbane as my Press Secretary. He will take up duty in my office on 'lednesday, 27 May.

For the past four years Mr Stewart has been the Commonwealth Immigration Department's Information Officer in Queensland. A detailed biographical note is attached.

II I Mr. - Stewart has been a member of the Australian Journalists' Association for the past 24 years and is a member

of the Public Relations Institute of Australia, (Queensland).

He is resigning his position as the Commonwealth

Immigration Department's Information Officer in Queensland and

takes up his appointment as Press Secretary to Dame Annabelle

Rankin on 27th May. He was with the Immigration Department for

four years.

Before that he was the A.B.C's Queensland Supervisor

of Publicity and Concerts for five years, ending a career in

newsgathering to enter the publicity and public relations field.

Mr. Stewart began his journalistic career on the

Brisbane "Telegraph" after service in the R.A.N. in World War II

and later worked on "The Northern Star", Lismore and the "Kyogle

Examiner" before moving to the Gold Coast in 1950 to become the

Tweed Newspaper Company's pioneering representative there. He

returned to Brisbane in 1955 to join the A.B.C's Brisbane Newsroom.

Mr. Stewart is a Life Member of Surfers Paradise Surf

Life Saving Club and was active as a player and administrator in

Lismore, Gold Coast and Brisbane Rugby Leagues.

He is 44, married with a wife, Margaret, and four

children, Jennifer 18, Christopher 16, Diane 12 and Julianne 8.

He lives at 305 Ellison Road, Geebung, Brisbane.
