PAPUA AND NEW GUINEA DISPLAY SUCCESS IN BANGKOK

(Statement by the Minister for External Territories, the Hon. C.E. Barnes, I.P.)

The Papua and New Guinea display from Expo '70 has just concluded on a highly successful note in Bangkok.

Announcing this today the Minister for External Territories, Ivr Barnes, said that a report from the Australian Embassy at Bangkok showed that the display attracted wide public interest in Thailand and was covered by the four TV stations in colour and black and white.

The display was opened by the Executive Secretary of ECAFE, Mr U. Nyun, and official guests included officials from United Nations agencies in Bangkok, other Embassies, leading Thais from the Foreign Ministry and the news media.

The recent admission of Papua and New Guinea to ECAFE was. highlighted and the report stated that the display had created a greater awareness of Papua and New Guinea in Thailand. Among organisations which studied the exhibition and took their own photographs was the Fine Arts Department of the Thai Ministry of Education.

Mr Barnes said that the display was being moved to Kuala Lumpur where it would open on the 21st of this month for one week. It would subsequently be shown also in Singapore.
