The Department of Education and Science

announced today that a class for aphasic children will

operate at Forrest Primary School from the beginning of the 1970 school year.

The objective in establishing this class

is to provide intensive instruction in the basic skills for a small group of children with a severe educational retardation which arises not from a lack of capacity but

from specific learning disabilities related to percept-ion and communication.

The children concerned have been selected after extensive testing by the Educational Clinic and the Schools Guidance Service and it is considered that

their special needs will be met by this class.

The class teacher will be Mrs M.E. Morris, formerly of the Lyneham Infants Department. Mrs Morris

has spent some time observing similar classes in Sydney

and receiving additional training in diagnostic testing and remedial teaching.
