FOR PRESS: ARGO: Not for release

before a.m. Monday 12. January, 1970.

Mr K.D.A. Medbury, Acting Secretary of the Commonwealth Department of Housing to-day announced the release of a new publication, 'Housing Quarterly', the first in a series designed to place a full range of up-to-date information on the desks of

those concerned in any way with housing in Australia.

The Quarterly reviews trends in home building, throughout

Australia, including the demand for dwellings, the availability of housing finance, costs, prices and the supply of labour and materials. It highlights the main developments during the quarter and includes a situation report on trends and developments within

each State.

Mr Medbury said that he hoped that the information on recent developments would lead to better-informed decision-making and be generally useful to the home building industry.

The Department anticipates that it will be possible to make future issues of 'Housing Quarterly' available shortly after the end of each quarter.

The booklet is issued free of charge and is available from the Commonwealth Department of Housing in Canberra and from the Department's Regional Offices in each State capital..

In addition to the quarterlies it is planned to continue to produce the annual review of the housing situation. The next issue will cover the 1969-70 financial year

Department of Housing, CANBERRA.
